What comes in bulk

Socket wire spools

C9 socket wire comes on 1,000 ft. spools with sockets molded at a fixed spacing: 12 in. or 24 in. on the standard bulk spools, and 12 in. or 15 in. on the SPT-2 spool. A spool is cut to length on site and finished with slide-on plugs, so one spool covers many runs of different lengths.

Bulb cases

LED C9 bulbs on E17 intermediate bases come in 25-packs and 500-bulb cases, in standard and Minleon lines. A 500-bulb case fills a 500 ft. run at 12 in. spacing, 625 ft. at 15 in., or 1,000 ft. at 24 in.

Clip and plug cases

O-clips come 1,000 to a case, all-in-one clips 3,000 to a case and magnet clips 2,000 to a case. Male and female slide-on plugs come 1,000 to a case. Each is also sold in smaller packs for top-ups.

Mini light cases

50-light LED mini strands come in 24-strand cases at 4 in. or 6 in. spacing. A case keeps every tree and shrub on a property in the same color and spacing.

Bulk or kit

C9 installation kits package socket wire, bulbs, plugs and clips for a set footage. Bulk spools and cases let a crew cut runs to exact lengths, choose bulb colors and patterns per run, and carry leftover stock to the next job. The guide below walks through how to decide between them, job by job.

Building runs from bulk

A run built from bulk parts follows the same steps as a kit. Measure the edge, cut the socket wire between two sockets at that length, and clamp a slide-on male plug on the end facing power and a female plug on the far end. Fill each socket with an LED C9 bulb and clip each socket to the gutter or shingle. Lamp cord carries power from the outlet to the start of the run or across gaps. Test every run on the ground before it goes up.

Keep spools labeled by spacing on the truck. 12 in. and 24 in. wire look similar coiled up, and a run cut from the wrong spool usually isn't noticed until it's on the roof.

Leftover bulk stock

Unused, uninstalled product in original, intact packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery, so an unopened case left over from a job that came in short doesn't have to sit on a shelf. Request the return before shipping anything back.

The equivalent 1,000 ft. 12 in. installation kit is $1,605.10. Buying the parts separately runs $364.12 less and leaves spare plugs; the kit puts everything in one line item with a choice of bulb colors and patterns.

Bulk spool or kit: how to decide

A C9 installation kit and a bulk spool with a case of bulbs end up as the same thing on the roof: socket wire, an LED bulb in every socket, clips under each socket and plugs on each end. The difference is how the material arrives and what's left over. The right choice depends on the job, not on a rule, so here are the questions that settle it.

1. How many separate runs does the job have?

A kit is sized to a total footage. On a simple roofline with two or three long edges that's ideal. On a house with dormers, gables, a porch roof and a detached garage, the footage might be 400 ft. but split across twelve runs of different lengths. Both a kit and a spool get cut and plugged on site, but a spool gives you a full 1,000 ft. to cut from, so a mis-measured run can be re-cut without running short.

2. Is the spacing the same everywhere?

Kits come in 12 in. and 15 in. spacing. Standard bulk spools come in 12 in. and 24 in., and the SPT-2 spool comes in 12 in. and 15 in. If a commercial job needs 24 in. spacing along a long fence line or parking lot edge, a 24 in. bulk spool is the route. If the whole job is one spacing at 12 or 15 in., either works.

3. One color or several?

Kits list the bulb colors and patterns available in their options. If the customer wants a custom pattern, alternating colors per edge, or different color temperatures on different buildings, bulb cases and packs bought separately make that easier to fill exactly.

4. Is it one job or a season?

For one job with a known footage, a kit is a single line in the cart with everything matched. For a season of installs, bulk spools, 500-bulb cases and clip cases get split across many jobs, and the leftovers from one property go to the next.

5. What happens to the leftovers?

A kit at or slightly above the footage leaves a short tail of wire and a few bulbs. A spool leaves whatever wasn't used, which is useful stock for an installer and dead weight for a one-time buyer. Unopened cases and packs can be returned within 30 days of delivery if they're unused and in original, intact packaging; cut wire can't.

Cost on a 1,000 ft. run

Built from parts at posted prices, a 1,000 ft. run at 12 in. spacing comes to $1,240.98, about $1.24 per foot, using one $275 bulk spool, two 500-bulb cases, a case of O-clips and a pack each of male and female plugs. The 1,000 ft. 12 in. kit is $1,605.10, about $1.61 per foot. The parts list in the table above shows exactly what was counted, so the comparison can be adjusted for the clips and plug count your job uses.

Quick decision guide

  • Choose a kit when the job is a single property, the footage is measured, the spacing is 12 or 15 in., and one bulb color or a listed pattern covers it.
  • Choose bulk when there are many runs of different lengths, the spacing is 24 in., the color plan is custom, or the material will be spread across several jobs.
  • Combine them on a large property: a kit for the main roofline, plus a spool and bulb pack for the odd edges and outbuildings.

Kit sizes at a glance

Every kit includes socket wire at the listed length and spacing, LED C9 bulbs for every socket, slide-on male and female plugs and clips. Bulk spools, bulb cases and clip cases are in the socket wire, C9 bulb and clip collections.

Questions

How many feet does a 500-bulb case cover?

500 ft. at 12 in. spacing, 625 ft. at 15 in. spacing, or 1,000 ft. at 24 in. spacing, one bulb per socket.

What spacing do the bulk socket wire spools come in?

The standard 1,000 ft. bulk spools come in 12 in. and 24 in. spacing. The SPT-2 socket wire spool comes in 12 in. and 15 in. spacing.

Do I need special tools to finish runs cut from a spool?

No stripping is needed. Slide-on male and female plugs clamp onto the cut wire and pierce the insulation when closed.

Is there a minimum for bulk pricing?

No. Case and spool prices are posted on each listing, and there is no order minimum or account needed to buy them.

Should I buy a kit or bulk parts?

A kit suits a single job with a known footage and one bulb color. Bulk spools and cases suit many custom-length runs, mixed patterns, or stock carried across several jobs.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is free on all orders to the contiguous United States, with no order minimum.

How many bulbs do I need for a roofline?

Convert the run length to inches and divide by the socket spacing. A 100 ft. roofline is 1,200 in.; at 12 in. spacing that's 100 sockets and 100 bulbs, and at 15 in. spacing it's 80.

Should I choose 12 in. or 15 in. spacing?

12 in. spacing gives a tighter, brighter line and is common on single-story homes and anything viewed up close. 15 in. spacing uses about 20% fewer bulbs for the same footage and is common on larger homes and commercial rooflines viewed from a distance.

What's in a C9 installation kit?

Kits combine C9 socket wire at the listed length and spacing with LED C9 bulbs to fill the sockets, slide-on plugs to finish the runs and clips to mount them. The options list on each kit shows the bulb colors and clip mix available.

What are sun warm, warm, pure and cool white?

They describe color temperature. Sun warm white (about 2600–2800K) is the most amber, closest to incandescent. Warm white (about 2800–3200K) is the traditional soft white. Pure white (about 4000–4200K) is neutral, and cool white (5900K and up) has a blue tint.

Can I return items I don't use?

Yes. Unused, uninstalled product in its original, intact packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Request the return before shipping anything back.
